A Gratitude Exercise

I recently had the opportunity to remotely join the December meeting of the Canadian Chapter of PCMA, and I am so thankful for the great distances that video conferencing can bridge. The agenda featured a contribution from life coach, Kevin MacDonald, who luckily I have had the opportunity to learn from on various occasions throughout my career. I eagerly jumped at yet another chance to listen and be inspired. During this talk, Kevin shared the importance of making every day a great one and here is a summary of my favorite takeaway…

Kevin shared his perspective on the book, The Magic by Rhonda Byrne, and invited us to engage in 28-days of being mindful of ten things we are grateful for. In considering this challenge, I took an honest look at myself and quickly realized I could definitely benefit from a shift in thinking. I’m embarrassed to say that day one was not easy! I'm mean I could rattle off a few, but TEN!? Negatives stood out in bold and positives were harder to identify. To be fair, I challenged myself to dig deeper than the predictable things I am thankful for. I am looking for more concise nuggets of good, unique to each day in the 28-day series. Interestingly, what was difficult and stressful at first has now become enjoyable and exciting. I’m on day eight and I already feel physically lighter. I am more eager about getting started in the morning and feel more peaceful when finishing up in the evening. All in all, this exercise has promoted positivity and increased good energy, allowing for more creativity and recognition of opportunity. 

In the spirit of this special time of year and in anticipation of a fresh new year, I invite you too to join in this exercise on gratitude.
